About the mental illness What is schizophrenia? Well it is a mental disorder that causes a change in a persons reality in life and affects how you think feel and act. Schizophrenia can be broken down into two parts the first part is Schizo which means split and the other part phrenia is the mind. About 1% of the population has schizophrenia ( According to NIMH). There are many types of Schizophrenia such as Paranoid , hebephrenic, catatonic and childhood those are all different types of schizophrenia. The most common type that we see in people is paranoid schizophrenia. Paranoid schizophrenia has some positive and negative symptoms that you will need to approach it at different sides with either medication or therapy. History of schizophrenia The word schizophrenia is more than 100 years old, it was first recognized in 1887 by by Dr. Emile Kraepelin. Later they found out that is accompanied for the rest of history How do you get the disease? Schizophrenia is it just caused by genetics or environmental factors but its also cause by different factors including; Between the second trimester of a womans pregnancy they may get sick with the flu and can increase the chances of the child from having schizophrenia; it also can occur if the child is born preterm or the mother drinks alcohol while she is pregnant. But they dont have an exact cause on the diseases these are just many of what they think that it is caused by. The other way for you to get the disease is if there is you are very stressed out and that could trigger a psychotic episode. Men manage to get the sick faster than women; it usually wont occur after you turn 45 years old. Treatment for Schizophrenia The most common way to get help with schizophrenia is either medication or therapy. Most of the medication that you could take mostly just help with getting all the negative and bring in the positive side effects. You can also benefit from group therapy, Social skills training to help cope with symptoms that impact social interactions and relationship building is also a way that can help with schizophrenia. There is no cure for the disease; but like my aunt once said the best way for someone to live with it; is to just live life happy and live everyday to the fullest. How it affects your daily live/living with it According to (WebMD) Schizophrenia is difficult to live with there are many thing that you can do with it such as; hold a job, own a house difficulty in school change in your friends and social live, trouble in sleeping and just about everyday life is difficult. Most of the time schizophrenia patients hear voices and they feel like people are always out to get them and they dont really want to trust anyone. You cant turn the voices off but you can making in to what you prefer to hear Says Michelle Hammer. Most of the time they dont know that they have the mental disorder and it can progress over time; you could be on the street walking and you her people talking to you but really they are just voices in your head which would be hard to deal with everyday. When should you get help You should get help as soon as you can, I think that you should go and get help as soon as you can, you dont want the disease to progress and get worse.
